Pet Surgery at Our Veterinarian in American Fork, UT
One of the unfortunate facts of life as a pet owner is the possibility that your pet may need surgery. At Utah Veterinary Hospital we’re dedicated to giving your pets the best care, from wellness exams to life-threatening diseases, and we’re well-equipped to perform any surgery your dog or cat may need throughout its life. Our veterinarian, Dr. Samuel Rivera, has years of experience caring for a wide variety of animals, and our caring veterinary team works to give every animal a calm and stress-free visit. The reasons for veterinary surgery are widespread, from the commonplace to the extraordinary, and our aim is to make sure your pet comes through its procedure with the best results possible.
Preventative Care Surgery
Our veterinarian advises that every pet in his practice get spayed or neutered as soon as possible. Not only do these procedures prevent unwanted litters, they also prevent many adult cancers and behaviors that can lead to dangers in an adult dog or cat. We’ll spay or neuter most puppies and kittens as early as eight weeks, as long as they weigh two pounds. We also find that many pets have a problem with dew claws that grow curled into a circle, eventually piercing into the pad and causing painful infections. To prevent this from happening, we’ll remove the dew claws when pets are very young before it can cause a problem.
Accident Care
Whether from a fall, an auto accident, or other causes, many pets need surgical care after an accident. We’re a fully-stocked hospital with the ability to care for your pet in any emergency. Some of the more common emergencies we’ve dealt with are:
- Limb amputations
- Tail amputations
- Fractures
- Laceration repair
- Splenectomy
In addition, we’re equipped to give pregnant dogs and cats C-sections if needed, as well as performing any needed orthopedic surgeries needed.
Medical Necessity
Pets can develop a need for minor or major surgery at any time in their life. Our experienced team will assist our veterinarian to care for your pet if it needs any of these procedures:
- Anal gland removal
- Perineal hernia repair
