Cat populations are increasing so quickly in the US, for this reason it is advised to spay or neuter BEFORE they are 5 months old. Part of the problem is that cats can reach sexual maturity as early as 4 months of age, which can lead to many unintended pregnancies. As we continue to do our part to keep the cat populations under control, it is important to talk to your Vet about the best time for your cat to be fixed. Most veterinarians have built the spay or neuter into their kitten vaccination plan. By preventing the occurrence of accidental pregnancy, we also limit the number of cats that end up in the shelter or on the streets. It also provides health benefits, such as males don’t mark/spray around your home, females risk of mammary neoplasia drops to nearly zero. Check with your Vet if you have any further questions or concerns.
