Moving Forward After Euthanasia

Pet owner saying goodbye to their pet

Pet Euthanasia with our American Fork Veterinarian

No pet owner wants to think about the day when their best friend isn’t going to be around any longer. An even worse thing to have to deal with is having to decide that you are going to put your pet to sleep. This is reserved for times when the animal is too sick to have a good quality of life. Oftentimes, the pet is suffering from a condition that causes pain.

There are some cases in which you will have time to think about the decision, but other times you won’t have this ability. Both situations are difficult to deal with because you still have to say goodbye. The emotional pain might take you a while to address.

Aftermath of Euthanasia

The aftermath of having to euthanize your pet is difficult to deal with. You might not be able to get past the situation easily. If you have a family, you might find that your spouse and children are also having a rough time.

A period of mourning is likely going to happen. Working through therapy and remembering the good times you had with your pet might help you. Some pet owners opt to have the animal cremated so that they can have the remains of the dog, cat or another animal for remembrance.

Moving Forward after Euthanasia

There are two schools of thought that pet owners go through after their pet is put to sleep. One is that they need another pet to love. The other is that they won’t ever have another pet. Because the mood might swing between these two, it is a good idea to wait a bit before you make a decision about another pet.
