Euthanasia: When is the right time?

As your pet starts to age, questions start to go through your mind about when is the right time to consider euthanasia. When thinking about your pet’s end of life it can cause a lot of emotions, it is important to consider these things before your pet starts to get near the end of his/her life. When you consult with your vet about the possibility of humanely letting your pet go, they will ask about your pets quality of life.

A few questions you can ask yourself is this:

  • What are the things that your pet loves to do?
    • How many of those things does your pet still do?
  • Is your pet experiencing untreatable/unmanageable pain?
  • Do the hard/bad days outweigh the good days?

Awareness of your pet is one of the most useful ways to know if your pet has a good Quality of Life. These questions may be difficult to ask, however they can assist you.

The day you lose your beloved pet is going to be a very difficult day and it is a day that making major decisions is even harder. We encourage you to talk to your vet before that time comes and know what your options are. We, as a staff, are there to make your experience as peaceful and genuine as possible for you and your pet.
